Oakland woman commits suicide off
low-rise
Oakland Tribune Newspaper building Gibbs Staff
Oakland is not known for people committing suicide. Homicide, however, is a different story, but last week a woman took her own life by going atop the Oakland Tribune Newspaper and jumping off. That is strange. The building is not that tall--seven stories--and Oakland does not allow such luxuries of personal or professional disgust to become public. This story was reported by the Oakland Tribune Newspaper, a thoroughly weak newspaper that represents the 410,000 citizens of Oakland. With the weakness of the paper, as known by just about everyone in Oakland, it seems strange that they would even report the story, as it may reflect the disgust we all share about the content of this paper. According to the Tribune, the poor 33-year woman had been having problems with the apartment she was renting, namely, they were raising the rent and she could not get that problem remedied. The report was that she had been under psychiatric care. But the inability to pay the rent or to have that problem resolved is hardly a reason for committing suicide. What has happen to this society that people now result to the most drastic methods to resolve any type of problem. A rent problem is a serious issue, but not a life and death issue. Around Christmas time many Americans do very strange things as a result of loneliness, the dissolving of relationships, rent, etc. This is the nation we live in, and what a sad nation it is becoming!
