Three Poems
By Connie Berhe`

Love Calling

Knock, knock, knock!

Who’s there?

Love calling!

When love calls

Chaka said, “you better answer”

There is an epidemic

Of failing to heed love’s call

Miserable people

Who stay in each other’s miserable company

Being miserable

Not loving the company

Sneaking around

Living passionless lives

When they would be happier alone

Or with someone else

Did they not hear?

If there is any love to be made, it should be made now

___________

Reality

No longer afraid

I faced my fears

Accumulated throughout the years

Buried my grief

Resurrected my peace

Now I walk in the light

Dwell in serenity

Of loving me!
______________

You Walked Into My Life

You walked into my life

Smelling like a rose

But now I cannot seem to get your stench from out my nose

I should have washed you out of my life with my garden hose

You walked into my life

Working like a charm

What I should have seen was that your smile was cause for alarm

Looking like a prince

Looks can be deceiving

I learned that well - since the time of your leaving

You walked into my life

Quiet as a mouse

Talking about marriage

Said you’d be my spouse

Buying us a house

You kept old lovers as mementos

Cleaved to the sordidness of your past

And when the truth came to me

You acted all surprised!

Now you seem mad at me

Cause this stuff will not last

I will not share your house

It is infested with a mouse

You walked into my life

Acting like a king

It became crystal clear

You could not produce a ring

Your kingdom reigned supreme

Only in your dreams

And now you've been deposed

You are not the kingly kind

You were not heaven-sent

Like other imposters

You were pretty much hell-bent on destroying my strength []
