In Los Angeles, KKBT-FM is Radio One's flagship station in Southern California; Radio One is the largest Black- owned radio chain in the Nation. Starting Sept. 11, Steve Harvey will host a morning comedy show. Alfred Liggins III, CEO of Radio One, said that having Harvey on is a major coup for them. He feels that Harvey is a popular entertainer in Black households and having him on KKBT-FM is good business for a morning show. But Black comedians are coming under careful scrutiny nowadays for much of their buffoonery at the expense of the Black community. Furthermore, the comedy angle in the mornings is of questionable taste. But Radio One knows that many young Blacks are totally into entertainment and as BET Holdings has shown, entertainment of Blacks will sell when nothing else will. Since these are good times in the Nation, entertainment is surely a go product. CEO Liggins III is reported to have said, "We are very excited and honored
to have Steve as our 'King of Comedy."
