Fear:
A Disease of the Soul

Fear is an emotion that sears the soul and affects the whole person! When we feel threatened, our body is notified to be ready to respond. Fear makes us feel anxious and alert to protect ourselves from a real or unreal threat. Our first instinctive reaction is to respond in defense, then escape out of harm's way. Some people, however, become frozen in a state of confusion and need guidance.

Fear causes us to reach into our memory for ways to handle this situation, then make our choice as to what course of action to follow. The more we learn, the more choices we access to fit the circumstance.

We delve into our intuitive levels of spiritual faith; understanding and courage are necessary to find acceptable and peaceful ways to deal with fear and maintain our self-esteem.

Halloween is a celebration of how we face ghosts, ghouls, goblins, and fearful aspects of our past. By humorously and lovingly exposing these chimeras to open view, we can recognize and deal with a threat in a safe manner. Some of us fear success, which can become overwhelming!

The more constructive and caring education, mentoring, and nurturing we have from youth, the better we are in reducing our cycle of negative reactions to fear. The disease of fear is not welcome in a nurturing environment.

How do you contribute to the safety of your environment?
