Peralta
College Meeting of Friends

At a most interesting party hosted by the Peralta Community College District, the new Chancellor, Dr. Ronald Temple, presided over a sparsely attended ceremony at Laney College. The reported reason for the gathering was to thank Peralta Community College District supporters for their continuing support. But as the party continued, the true reasons for hosting it emerged--they were political and introductory. The District endorsed a bonds ballot inititive to be voted on next week and gave nods of approval of certain candidates whom the District wants to support but can't by law. The party was introductory because the Chancellor wanted to get his legs in the community and to introduce his new college presidents and appointees. A number of political candidates sat on stage and were announced by the Chancellor. Don Perata received an award; BART board members were there; City Council persons were supposed to be there; and there was a push for the District's Bond Measure by the student District Board members. The College of Alameda's Jazz Band played the music. They are an excellent band, and the President of the College of Alameda, George Herring, told Gibbs that this band will be releasing a CD soon. They were the delight of the party. [] |
