Rev. Pat Robertson of TV fame
attempted a quick buck in Africa

There is a report that Conservative TV Evangelist Pat Robertson invested in the purchase of land in Liberia that could reap up to $1 billion worth of gold on his investment of some $8 million in this land is interesting and disturbing, especially knowing Robertson's very conservative political views and his not-so-conservative moral views.

The report has him now selling off his interests as quickly as possible. This interesting investment of a white evangelist in an African nation that is depressed and war torn has a flare and odor of past South African investments by racist whites wanting to benefit by the oppression of 23 million Black people.

The South African exploitation by white investors was a disgrace, but morally bankrupted white investors did not care. Now Robertson has aligned himself with that group. Robertson preaches a form of Christianity that seems more political than gospel. Some Black observers have likened it to white nationalism Apparently, his form of Christianity does not restrain him from making a quick buck off the down and out, exploited Africans.

But investing is tricky business; it is especially tricky in volatile countries. However, his major contributors, as well as the small $20 a month contributors, should ask whether the money the TV ministry receives is for these large investments that seek gold returns. Is that what people send their money to this ministry for--making money? Wasn't this a Christian ministry?

In fairness to Robertson, unlike the many TV Evangelists who came from poverty to become millionaires at the gospel, Robertson came from money background. His father was in Congress for many years. He had money when coming into the ministry. After finishing Law School at Yale, he then got a Masters Degree in Divinity.

Nevertheless, what he attempted to do in Liberia was simply profiteering during times of distress. []
