Passage To Real Life:
A program for Transitioning

Last weekend, while attending the Southern Cuisine Tasting cookout, I was introduced to a program called the Passage To Real Life. They are church-located group out of Oakland, CA. that is providing  a way for many who have been on drugs, in to the justice system, and just down and out to integrate back into society--real life

According to their flyer, Passage To Real Life was started in 2004 as a vision of connecting the dots for those trying to transition back into life as it is commonly accepted by most Americans.

Mr. Douglas McKoy was the starter of this group and he is the main voice of the organization that I talked to while at this Cuisine competition. He told me that the group has five key areas to self Preservation:

1.) Spiritual: They believe in the power of prayer

2.) Mental: They believe that a sound mind, free from its own negative barriers enables productivity.

3.) Physical: The believe in the force of sound physical health and the physical self

4.) Family: They believe in the power of  the family and the value of family ties.

5.) Community: they believe that individuals are more likely to be constructive members of society when they have a vested interest in  their community.

Although they are aligned with the church at 1743 Foothill Blvd., Oakland, CA., they can be reached at:
