An 85-Year Old Man was Sentenced to Life for Murder

San Mateo, CA-1/28/01

Last week, in San Mateo, Leonard Nathan Sherman was sentenced to two terms of life in prison for killing his sister in 1999. He was 85 years old. The old man took pride in being a tough guy-- some of the relatives said: "He was always feisty."

The relatives said that there was bad blood between Sherman and his sister for a number of years. The dispute was seemingly over $750,000 in treasury notes Sherman had signed over to his sister and her husband for maintaining him, but soon after, Sherman wanted the money back and some other items he had given them. They refused.

On July 19, 1999, Sherman rushed into his sister's bedroom with two guns in hand and killed her, as she tried to reach for her gun by the bed. He fled the scene, but was arrested three hours later in San Francisco. He was in a car with his girlfriend and had three guns. []
