New Year Thoughts

We are each unique in our human pattern of differences with an equal right to become the best that we can be.

As a former Senior Senator in the California Senior Legislature I observed our government's attitudes and processes. Both ingrained weaknesses and strengths were observed. The one change that I was proud of was the Resolution I wrote to allow seniors the right to pursue lifelong education in our school systems. This permitted them to continue to learn or develop their interests after serving their families and their survival needs.

Emotional and inspirational guidance was one deep -seated need that did not always have a healthy focus! Problems therefore were classed as illnesses needing therapy or medical intervention. Serious problems also became violent anger expressions, terror, or murder as revenge. Drugs and addictions repress some of this emotional pain. This social cancer needs a remedy!

As a child of the depression years, I saw the need for a more effective kind of education. My decades old vision of a Family Management Leadership process, which can become a seed for exploratory change, can bring about an educational balance beyond economics. We need to consider this as an American Family Priority Process. Aware or not, we affect each other.

In order to forgive past regressive attitudes, decisions, and behaviors we need a progressive system, which promotes healthy changes on all levels of society. Parental role models who have practiced healthy guidance can be effective and useful.

We need the collective will and the caring supportive attitudes that heal our systems. Programs such as Conflict Resolution, Challenge Day, and Circles of Connection are a few that are helping to create a balance in our teetering society. Each of us can make a meaningful difference when we voice our need for change. Activists succeed when they share this kind of support. Healthy attitudes and behaviors begin in our homes. Where are the teachers?
