The Bible states "My people perish for a lack of knowledge "
I have spent this entire week delivering information gathered for the purpose of distribution to the non-governmental organization"NGO" Vital International Foundation, collecting information and medicine for an entire year since being with them last has been a worthwhile and fruitful labor of love. NGO's are responsible for information distribution and counseling in Ghana and were the first of such services to the country. They have also made progress since last year. They have trained counselors, 18 to be exact, to specifically deal with HIV/AIDS issues. They are to be applauded for their efforts as it will go a long way. Susan Ofori Mitchell, Director of Vital International has also located a funding source for basic operational needs through a "USAID" funded program call "Family Health International". They will be able to publish their "HOT LINE" number and other information more extensively and thereby serve more of the population. Through Aid for AIDS / Africa fund raising efforts, a small donation was made to defer the cost of travel for their counselors/social workers to and from work and to other locations. Also, a list of WEB SITES was given to them to get the latest information from the Internet, along with another small donation to support access. Written information in the form of books and articles about HIV/AIDS in general and counseling people with the disease were brought from the US along with some basic medical supplies. They are stronger and are growing, thank GOD! Susan and I have met with her Public Relations staff to formulate a plan to do public speaking at key government, educational and religious institutions in the following weeks. I look forward to the opportunity to talk about "Living with HIV/AIDS" in the face of this disease in an African setting. Most people believe there is no hope here, but that is changing as Ghana is beginning to realize what HIV/AIDS really is and how to live with it. Something truly exciting is happening here as Africans unite to address HIV/AIDS with its new allies from the US. Making new contact through "Project Africa 2000" the latest effort of the "Economic Development Foundation," I was introduced to a dynamic brother by the name of Edward Donton. Edward Donton is Founder and Program Director of two programs: "West Africa AIDS Foundation" (WAAF) and a Health Care facility called "International Health Care Center" under the "WAAF" umbrella. He is a Ghanaian raised in the U.K., living in Southern California and back in Ghana to address this issue of HIV/AIDS in Africa. He has stepped out in Faith by acquiring a wonderful facility and investing more than $100,000 of his own monies. Hats off to Eddie for his willingness to be an instrument of God.
