Maurice Graham will be leaving for Ghana, in Africa, at the beginning of June. He will be there for two months, as he reports back to us. This trip is in conjunction with the Vital International Health Foundation, located in Accra, Ghana. They are a NGO [Non Government Organization] providing HIV information and counseling to their population expressing interest about HIV/AIDS issues. This is Maurice's second year working with them as a public speaker for introducing their services to the public, private and social organizations. He will conduct workshops and educational forums on AIDS. His workshops will educate on prevention, recognition, and treatment methodologies. His approach to AIDS is not a traditional one; he will be teaching about how to heal your body, love yourself, forgive yourself, and how to live with AIDS for a fraction of the costs of traditional Western medicine. Maurice has been infected with HIV for 17 years, however, his attitude is not one of a sufferer. He says, "I do not consider myself as suffering from HIV/AIDS. This may sound trivial, however, it is the distinction that I believe must be made in the minds of us who have been infected to survive and go on to Live with the virus. I have an attitude of wellness even in the presence of the diagnoses of AIDS. I have not experienced any of the opportunistic infections associated with the disease to date . I suffered at first, for those first five years, believing I would be overcome by AIDS and drug addiction, but I remained well and in the process I went from an attitude of dying from the disease to living with the disease and healing from all the related factors that contributed to the disease process." He wants to share with other infected persons his experience in maintaining their health. He will be teaching on prevention of the disease, maintaining health if infected, and how to do that for cheap. Jerome Griffin, a Professor of African American Studies at Laney Community College in Oakland, CA and doctors from the Economic Development Fund Foundation will also be a part of this congregation to Africa. The Economic Development Fund Foundation will stay for two weeks. Our man Maurice Graham will be in Africa for two months. He will be in Ghana and then in Liberia, Africa. From these locations, he will write and let us know what, precisely, is happening at ground-zero of AIDS in Africa. We look forward to his reports that we may share them with you.
