I have observed over the years that most Latinos
coming to this nation come to work and make a better life for themselves
and their families in Mexico and Latin America. They are busy with the
business of working, going to school and just living.
Furthermore,
they are usually some of the kindest, friendliest, and most helpful
people you will find. They are not here to take anyone's jobs or to side
with the racially divided America that wants to use Blacks as the
kicking ball, all the while denying that that is their strategy. Maybe
it is because of this that the Rush Limbaughs of America and the
dilatants who consider his (and his thousand imitators)
drivel as worthy of thought
seek to
mischaracterize them as a burden on society and that immigration is such
an urgent problem for America's safety.
Some of those
dilatants found themselves in a bad way when they took it upon
themselves, in Colorado, to draft their own immigration laws and
outlawed renting to immigrants, prohibiting driving license to
immigrants, etc., and now cannot find workers to pick their crops and to
do those things that most of these noble citizens think themselves
(regardless of how poor) too good to do.
America always
need a kicking ball to workout its insecurities and shame on. So they
often take it out on the poor, hardworking Latino community that, by and
large, harms no one; hates no one; stereotypes no one, but is just here
to do a hard day's work for an honest dollar and support their families.
That has always seemed noble and dignified to me.
On the other
hand, many immigrants from Asia and elsewhere who come to America,
especially their student and educated class, immediately are
acculturated by this American system and decide that everything the
America media--through its films and distorted news depictions--say and
have said about Blacks is correct, and any deviations they see contrary
to the distorted depictions are exceptions, not the rule.
They never
question whether America's systems are distorted; they can never get
beyond the acculturation of their education to ask serious and profound
questions about what America is really doing at home and aboard. They,
like many vulgar Americans, never think anything is wrong with their
perception; they just go along to get along.
Consequently,
although they say that they are not here to take sides in the American
race drama, they align themselves with those of the vulgar white
majority in seeing Blacks in a convoluted way. And then, without a
cause, they often despise Blacks, demean Blacks, look down on Blacks,
even though Blacks are their natural allies. And whether they know it or
not, they will need allies in this society--let China rise to its full
potential; let a suicide bomber attack--they will become the footballs
fit for those vulgar white Americans feet they now idolize and bow to!
So acculturated
are many of these immigrants as they move to assimilation in this society that
if given the facts about Blacks most of them would not believe them because they
are desperately trying to be Americans in all the sense of that word,
which they only understand as not making any waves, hating what
Americans hate, and loving what Americans love--even though most have
not really perceived this supposed hatred of Blacks by whites.
Many think being
Americans is imitating the vulgar majority of white America who
ignorantly stereotype and vaunt their frustration against others, but not
as the
most sophisticated Americans who think independently and are not swayed
by the claptrap of Rush Limbaugh, et. al, and his daydreamers.
It is these
immigrants who are really taking the American jobs from those Americans
who have educated themselves many years only to find that H-1 visa
holders have their jobs. But the conservatives love these because they
buy into their claptrap shouted through media megaphones of vulgar
conservative talk shows that never stop.
