INFORMATION

Frank Williams

Information is knowledge gathered facts and/or communication of facts or knowledge, according to Microsoft Encarta Dictionary. What is information to you? As I view information, it is a wonder what destiny truly is? Minds are brainwashed, altered and molded to conform to existing ideologies of someone’s theories of specific mindset and subjects.

Across the world are dualities, specifically, love and hate. People have descriptive ideas of love and hate. The measure of it all is vast. Throughout history, there have been both the words of religion and war. In 2005, we have gone through decades and centuries of the word and conquest. It can become mind boggling if one chooses it to be. Intellectually, one can look at what is going on around the world, the hatred that is prevalent within our streets, even to the streets of Iraq and London, as a change has come.

Information is exchanged and projected daily from the use of media to the words of mouth. Daily discussions from barber shops to beauty shops to convention rooms and meeting halls about issues. In this day and age, people are becoming issue- prone. It is about self--individuals and societies. People's minds are being altered to become issue-prone from the mass media and the entities that release information or give them the go ahead to view or print information.

Barbaric is a word from the past that meant uncivilized; today, we are much smoother in the way we carry out brainwashing of the masses. Commercials come across your television screens, called infomercials, on how to get another person rich. Infomercials come across your screen on how to deal with health. Commercials come across your screen on daily pills to take for specific reasons (with major side effects if taken). News shown daily about deaths, bombings, wars, take-overs, fires, storms, suicides that project negative images to cross up the mind of those who don’t understand life or its bigger picture. No matter how glamorous the messenger look, the message is altering the mind.

Four bombs went off in London killing people. Suicide- bombing is committed more often than not in Iraq. Daily suicides or self-inflicting injuries are committed in the US on a daily basis by our youths and adults. Mental Health issues are rising and it is becoming easier to become diagnosed with mental health problems now than ever before. And it’s no wonder--the information that we continue to receive is astonishing.

Tons of money is going to war and weapons while people are losing jobs, while businesses are cutting back on employees, while schools are closing, while libraries are closing, while the cost of living is rising, while gas prices are rising, while rents are rising, while colleges tuitions are rising, while day care prices are rising, and mixed messages are being sent by our government officials are sending our people into confusion between patriotism and common sense. How is information being used today?

When the messages are strong, the forces that be are strong also. Strong messages are sent and people become more empowered from the words and images projected.

The present American media paradigm sends out factual and knowledgeable information daily. There are over two-million people incarcerated—take a strong look at that. How is it in the USA, the land of the free, the land of milk and honey, the land of promise and opportunities, where you hear the slogan, “Only in America,” has over two million people incarcerated? What message is being sent? In a technological country, a supposedly supreme era in intellectuality, so many people are making mistakes—some harmless, some self-inflicting and some made grave. Since we are the greatest country in the world, why are so many of our people losing their minds?

There are multiple wars that exist today. There is the war on drugs; the war in Iraq; the internal war within minds of human beings that come from the information given to them, altering and transforming the mindset.

Think about 911. I remember the day after, I went to Walgreens to get something for my job, as an intern at Laguna Honda Hospital, an elder lady walked out as I was about to enter. She stopped and looked up and tears flowed from her eyes. I asked her what was wrong, then she reached out for a hug as she cried. She was overwhelmed from viewing repeatedly showing on television of the twin towers being blown and people being killed. She felt unsafe, and stress was setting in. My point is this: no matter how subtle things appear to be, the results equal issues that we have.

There are people making millions of dollars in many ways. But, the images portrayed to our youths sends out a different message. Messages of identity crisis, demoralizing images called art in bikini skirts in videos and worst than that, women are calling themselves the b-word and are for sale to make a dollar. Many so-called leaders are selling out their people during lunch meetings and after community meetings for a few dollars, a car, or for a few minutes of fame.

The  present American paradigm has created more chaos than the era that came before it. A short six years ago the biggest problem was probably taxes--not getting enough money back from IRS. Although across the earth, genociding dark skinned people was and still is going on. Whereas, today, life existence is a threat and more and more people are caring less and less about life.

Issues are subjects of concern that are mixed with problematic difficulties. We are definitely in a war; we are in times of uncertainties, and there is massive chaos that surrounds us on a daily.

We must learn to decipher information and learn to use both logic and common sense. The reality of it all is that the bigger picture amounts big businesses that equate to cash flows. This is why the slogan, “Only in America,” is spoken. Tune in what you will and tune out what you have too, but deal with what you need to and move on!

Information is big business and you better comprehend it. Everything has a price. Even as you read this, someone is attempting to retrieve information on you for a credit card, for whatever the reason because that information is for sell as well. This present American media paradigm is about money and power, and your issues, and your misery is largely marketed.

Be careful how you receive information. Just as love and hate will continue, so will mass marketing of information. Live life on life's terms and be as happy and healthy as you can be.
