There is a small firestorm among white intellectuals about a number of their prominent historians caught cheating through plagiarism and other means. Historians Stephen Ambrose and Doris Kearns Goodwin, two of the more noted, are accused of cheating. Their offense is that they actually did not write many passages in their works, but got them from other writers.

This is a big deal in the gotcha journalism and academic circles. Ms. Kearns Goodwin regularly sat proudly on The News Hour and pronounced profundities we on the pavement failed to see or correctly understand historically. As a result of her prominence, she was a ready target for the gottcha journalists and the I want to be famous little guys.

The remarkable angle for me is how could she have such a blind spot as to not expect that some diminutive nerdy, unsocialized, reclusive I-will-make-my-mark-on-the-world scholar would not catch her? They are all over the place! Could it be that the pride of whiteness could have been her downfall? And a downfall it has been: Goodwin resigned from The News Hour, the Pulitzer Award judges, and her speaking engagements. Now, too embarrassed to act as the authority she isn't or to be the authority she is, she sits at home trying to let the dust settle, as she counts her millions already brought in. Oh, when in disgrace in men's eyes!

In 1991 Stephen B. Oates, a historian at the University of Massachusetts,and the author of a 1977 biography of Abraham Lincoln, with charged with plagiarism in that work. The school and others got a plagiarism computer program and team, and tested his works. They found more than one work had been plagiarized. The computer group came up with a 1,400-page report showing 175 instances of plagiarism in his Abraham Lincoln work, 200 instances in the William Faulkner work, and 240 instances of plagiarism in his Martin Luther King work. Instead of dealing with the cheating historian appropriately, they criticized the team of computer scientists.

But plagiarism and cheating have always been a part of the American historical landscape. Many years ago, I read a small book by A.J. Rogers on some true facts about Black Americans and Blacks generally. That was my first awakening to the fact that Whites have lied in their history books about themselves and certainly lied in their history books about Blacks and other nonwhite people.

To Whites, it seems, fairness and accuracy were not important. The important ingredient was that there be a uniform code of depictions that comported with TV and movie castings of superior people in contrast to the castings of inferior people. Now, are we to believe that truth and integrity are important ingredients in the writing of history by Whites? Why? It hasn't been that way for years. Where is Stanley Couch when you need him--somewhere drinking white water and thinking it's coolaid, no doubt?

But really, isn't the real problem this: these noted scholars got caught? In America one can do any dastardly deed he/she can get away with and still be considered a scholar, a lady, a gentleman, and a person of integrity. Just don't get caught.

When White America casts its net of negative images of nonwhite people around the world in America and elsewhere, who is there to say the image is distorted? Rarely will other Whites recoil because of the false images of others being spewed out throughout to the world by the White media. Most Whites actually believe their own propaganda is true.

Resultingly, immigrants come to these shores calling all white Americans Americans, but Black Americans are simply called Blacks--that is much like referring to a writer you don't know by his first name and put him/her on your own low level. They come to these shores with poor images of Blacks, which Whites have stereotyped from the 27% of our underclass and spread across the world as if they were donots at a USO meeting.

So now we are to be amazed that these White historians have lied about their work. OK, WOW, how horrible! Now, what else is new to White America that we have known already? Why do you think Blacks have seen Whites as Cretians?
