Politics in San Francisco over the Chief of Elections

|
In San Francisco, their Elections Chief, Tammy Haygood, was fired by the Elections Board after she had been on the job only six-months. She was a mayoral appointment, much as the members of the Civil Service Commission are mayoral appointees. Ms. Haygood took her case to the Civil Service Commission and they reinstated her only to have a Superior Court Judge block her return to the job. Some of the Elections Commission's staff had said that they would lock the doors if she tried to return, and some even said that they would walk off the job if she is returned. As a result of the expected Civil Service Commission's action, the Elections Commission went to court to block her return. Of course, the next step was to get the stay of the Civil Service Commission's order returning Haygood removed. Late Friday of last week, U.S. District Judge William Alsup issued an order Friday that would block her from the job until 5 p.m., Monday; he may extend it until Wednesday. And so is the seasaw
that is on and off in San Francisco. Thus far, there have been no charges
of racism made. []
