Don Imus And Rutgers:
Part 2

Don Imus of WFAN radio was fired on April 13, 2007 but do we really know the reason why? The real reason for Imus’s release is called GREEN POWER--money, American cash!  WFAN, CBS, MSNBC started losing sponsors and advertisers, which meant that they were losing revenue, cash, profits. They were also starting to see pickets outside of their offices in New York City. It seems that money was more important then lives and moral values and more important than Don Imus’s fowl words. The question is this: what were the executives of these mass communication companies going to do about it? Will they create a sensitive training sessions for their staff and employees at WFAN, CBS, or MSNBC? We have a very troubled nation, a nation that refuses to heal itself; a nation that refuses to come to terms with its one-hundred-year slave-master mentality.

Occasionally we see glimpses of promise forward with the election of the junior senator from Illinois, African American Barak Obama; then we slip back into oblivion with racist acts like three weeks ago.

It’s a troubled nation when we can recite every fact of the murder investigation of little six year old JonBenet Ramsey case in Denver, or the famous kidnapping case of Polly Klaus in Petaluma, and the national attention of the disappearance of 18 year college student, Natalee Holloway, from Alabama during spring break two years ago in Aruba--all three of these young females were white--yet the majority of Americans cannot name a single missing African American child, let alone a young Black female. This tells this nation how we don’t value the lives of African American females.

Something is really askew when a 66 year old white male can get more attention by calling a talented young group of African American woman “nappy headed hoes,” while that same group of African American woman who played for a national basketball championship received very little attention. Imus’s vile words will play on the psyche of many other young African American women for years to come.

Don Imus statements reveals that we still don’t belong in the United States, we are not their ideal of beauty; and many white males still think of us as sex objects, as baby factories, welfare queens, and drug addicts. Our nappy heads and our large noses are not their style of beauty. This we know already. Only three Miss Americas have been African American, and two were later striped of their crowns because of minor scandals, yet the current Miss America does drugs and misbehaves and she continues to be Miss America.

What is achieved in the United States will never satisfy most white American males. An African American woman must be put in her proper place and not complain. This includes high profile African American females, such as Condoleezza Rice-- Secretary of State, Oprah Winfry--TV star, Gwen Ifill--White House Reporter, Boyance Knowles--singer, Hallie Berry--actress, Doctor Mae Jamison--astronaut, Candance Parker--basketball Star and Vivian C. Stringer--basketball coach.  This sexist and racist cycle is slowly being broken down with the above list of hard working females. A good faith effort still needs to be put forth by the ruling establishment to change this archaic attitude

Now the American mainstream media is turning its political creativity to Hip Hop, rap, and gangster rappers attacking young African American brothers in the music industry for their lyrics and portrayal of African American woman in their videos. Yes, that is a problem, but it’s an African American problem. I discussed this subject of “Hip-Hop Needs to be Sacked” many years ago. In essence, what the mainstream media is doing is laying a smoke screen on the real issue of the state of race in this country. Trying to allay Don Imus white supremacist attitude.

African American males are going to have to aid and assist African American sisters. Young Black males are going to have to stop using the N-word and the B-word. Then other cultures would stop using those words. Young Black males are going to respect and honor our beautiful ebony sisters. This includes the hip hop, rap, and gangster rappers. Check yourself and respect yourself because the world is watching.  Racism runs deep in the fabric of this country and Don Imus just brought it to the surface once again.
