Actor/Director, Clark Johnson

Samuel L. Jackson and SWAT, the movie, came in first last week with over $36 million by Saturday. This action movie was directed by Clark Johnson formerly actor on Homicide and other movies and TV series. SWAT fits into the action genre type that Johnson is accustomed to playing.

Some reviewers are saying this movie is like so many other of today's movies, retooling old 1970's movies and dressing them up with special effects. Whether that is true or not is debatable, but what is true is that an increasing number of Black actors, like Johnson, are turning to directing with great success.

Clark Johnson was known for his work on TV, but with the newly released SWAT, with Samuel L. Jackson, he will be known for greater and bigger budget movies. SWAT was approximately $70 million to make, and already it has grossed over $50 million.

Johnson was born in Philadelphia, but moved to Toronto when he was a teenager. He now lives in the US and travels back to Canada from time to time. In Canada he appears in some features movies. He is an actor who has turned director, as many young Black talents are now doing.

His career took off when he worked in a Canadian Hot Shots. His role was a smart staff researcher. He got his most notable work in TV series, like Homicide: Life on the Streets. []
