CALIFORNIA (BASN) -- Golf Hall of Famer Carol Mann has displayed another instance of foot in mouth disease regarding the "Ground Zero" mosque debate. This author had great respect for this woman for the battles she wedged for women’s rights pertaining too the sport of golf. What has happened to Ms. Mann? She was one of the vocal supporters of the English-only segment of the LPGA who wanted to make the Asian female golfers learn English before they went on tour. "I am against the Muslim worship center at Ground Zero because it's too much of a flagrant demonstration of our own 'tolerance' out of control. I do not believe the Muslims are the children of the God I know, the one who sacrificed His only Son, Jesus, to provide forgiveness and salvation for us without earning it by 'works.' All we have to do is believe in Christ and we gain His Kingdom. The United States is a Christian country, founded on Christian principles and with an expectation of Christian behavior. Let the Muslims erect their worship centers in other countries that are not Christian. Go away -- soon!"
YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS
For those who may not know, the Mosque has been at this location for over
30 years before the tragic September 11th attacks. The Mosque has every
right to stay there. This is America. Remember, land of the free and the
home of the brave or as Ms. Mann and her conservative political followers,
would perpetuate, free for their selective few. Ms. Mann and other political
conservatives might need to look into their hearts and stop making it
their mission to make life miserable for undocumented residents and minority
Americans.
Some Americans have just lost their minds since President Obama won the election two years ago and stepped into the White House. Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck have increased their attacks. My question to the American conservatives and Ms. Mann is -- When police dogs and fire department water cannons were put on young African Americans in the Civil Rights Movement 60’s, was that not a Christian act? The targeting of African American men as bad guys, trouble makers has increased with these political right wing conservative zealots. Black limitation climbing the economic strata is not another Christian act, yet many of the churches these conservatives attend said nothing.
So, to get holy now with this issue is very troubling. To wrap yourself in the American Flag which conservatives do constantly trying to convey their point is also troubling. At the end of Ms. Mann’s quote she ends it with a signed petition and the American Flag.
This past Saturday, Beck and his minions held a political rally in Washington D.C. on the very steps where over four decades ago Dr. Martin Luther King Jr gave his “I Have a Dream” speech. Beck and his followers are against everything Dr. King stood for and to pick this day to have a rally shows what they are about. Confrontation and to sabotage that is their objective.
It is almost as if these individuals want a fight, and want a battle with a goal to return to the pre-1960 years. Sorry ladies and gentleman, it's not going to happen. WE ARE A MULTI-NATIONAL STATE, we are the world’s Rainbow Coalition. We are still the leader in freedom and justice. Yes there are issue in the United States that need to be addressed but for Ms. Mann and the Conservative Tea Partiers this is not a positive way to gain political power.
