The Evolving Ameicans And America |
|||||

Since the time of slavery Americans have always thought of themselves as being an all white nation with some non-whites among them, and they have taken a certain pride in the fact of their tolorance. Indeed there was/is still a need for nonwhites in their minority numbers as "whipping boys" to blame their short comings, as an avenue for injustice, eficitiencies, and various untoward behavavior inflicted against them from time to time. That tendency has not ceased even today. It is so ingrained in the mindset of America that when there is no "minority" to blame, other whipping boys are created. It is clear that this is a need still present in American life--from slavery through reconstruction, the Civil Rights era, and through the recoloration of America from white to brown and other nonwhite colors. For some white Americans this has been an unsettling time to watch what was once an all white nation* inreasingly become a nonwhite nation. The mispreception of America's all whiteness has been an uneasieness for years by those who have claimed the all whiteness of America and those who press the truth of this nation's birthing and building. Now that the coloration of America is
in full bloom, those who have claimed America as their birth but without
whiteness attached are making their presence felt and heard all over this
nation. They cannot be disregarded any longer! And as brown Americans
are rising they are working with other nonwhites to demonstrate that this
nation is not onlywhite but all colors of the earth--black, brown, red,
yellow,white, etc. This is one of those truths many Americans have denied
too long. The new demodemographics are causing some
problems as they are changing America into a new political fabric and
a new nation. This new cloth will force many to throw off the manacales
of "minority" to embrace their stating as just Americans. Frank A. Jones ___________________ |
