Low Self-esteem and Crimes of Youths

............
Parenting is more than merely bringing a child to adulthood. It must bring that child to a successful adulthood so that he/she is intellectually, spiritually, and financially equipped to see himself/herself in a positive light and to be able to withstand others' attempts to define him/her. Many psychologists argue that good self-esteem is crucial to a person's well being, and many realize that low self esteem plays an important role in criminal activity, especially criminal activities of youths. Everything has a price” seems to be true in our world of bribes, wealth, and materialism. Simon thought he could buy the Holy Spirit’s power, but Peter harshly rebuked him. Why? The only way to receive God’s power is to do what Peter told Simon to do – repent, ask God for forgiveness, and be filled with his Spirit. No amount of money can buy salvation, forgiveness of sin, or God’s power. These are only gained by repentance and belief in Christ as Savior. In addition, Simon apparently wanted that ability for selfish reasons: to have power , to make money, and to gain prestige. God doesn’t give us abilities to enhance our own lives. He grants us gifts so that we may bring him glory by building up others. When you find yourself wishing for an ability that would put you in the limelight or somehow enrich you personally, check your motives. Instead of sitting around wishing for talents you don’t have, spend your time serving God and others with the gifts you do possess. (Acts 8:18-23 NLT)

hold my honey and I store my bread In little jars and cabinets of my will. I label clearly, and each latch and lid I bid, Be firm till I return from hell. I am very hungry. I am incomplete. And none can give me any word but Wait, The puny light. I keep my eyes pointed in; Hoping that, when the devil days of my hurt Drag out to their last dregs and I resume On such legs as are left me, in such heart As I can manage, remember to go home, My taste will not have turned insensitive To honey and bread old purity could love

Stephen’s review of Jewish history gives a clear testimony of God’s faithfulness and sovereignty. Despite the continued failures of his chosen people and the swirling world events, God was working out his plan. When faced by a confusing array of circumstances, remember that (1) God is in control- nothing surprises him; (2) this world is not all there is – it will pass away, but God is eternal; (3) God is just, and he will make things right – punishing the wicked and rewarding the faithful; (4) God wants to use you (like Joseph, Moses, and Stephen) to make a difference in the world. (Acts 7:17 NLT)
